What Is Time Percentage?
Time percentage expresses one time period as a fraction of another, multiplied by 100. It answers questions like "how much of my 8-hour workday did the 2-hour meeting take?" (25%) or "what portion of a week is a single day?" (about 14.29%).
The result is always relative to the second duration. If the first duration is shorter, the percentage is below 100%. If it equals the second, the result is 100%. If it is longer, the result exceeds 100%.
Example: a 45-minute break in a 6-hour shift takes up 45 / 360 × 100 = 12.5% of the shift.

Worked Example: 2-Hour Meeting in an 8-Hour Workday
Both durations are already in the same unit (hours), so no conversion is needed.
Step 1 — divide: 2 hours / 8 hours = 0.25
Step 2 — multiply: 0.25 × 100 = 25%
A 2-hour meeting takes up 25% of an 8-hour workday. The remaining 6 hours — 75% of the day — are available for other work.
Worked Example: 1 Hour vs. 1 Day (Mixed Units)
The first duration is 1 hour; the second is 1 day. Different units require conversion.
Step 1 — convert the day to hours: 1 day = 24 hours
Step 2 — divide: 1 hour / 24 hours = 0.04167
Step 3 — multiply: 0.04167 × 100 ≈ 4.167%

When converting months or years, this calculator uses average lengths — 30.4375 days per month (365.25 ÷ 12) and 365.25 days per year (accounting for leap years).
