Decimals and percentages are two ways of expressing the same value. Converting between them is a single arithmetic step in either direction. This converter handles both — type a decimal to get the percentage, or type a percentage to get the decimal.
How to Use This Converter
-
1
Enter a decimal in the Decimal field to see the equivalent percentage.
-
2
Or enter a percentage in the Percentage field to see the equivalent decimal.

Both conversions are shown independently — you can use either field as the input.
How to Convert Decimal to Percent
Percentages and decimals both express fractions of a whole. A percentage is simply a decimal multiplied by 100. This is because "percent" means "per hundred" — 1% = 1/100 = 0.01.
To convert any decimal to a percent, multiply it by 100. In practice, this means moving the decimal point two places to the right.
Examples: 0.5 × 100 = 50% — 0.37 × 100 = 37% — 0.45372 × 100 = 45.372% — 23.456 × 100 = 2345.6%
Decimal to Percent Formula
Multiply the decimal by 100 to get the percentage.
percentage = decimal × 100
Percent to Decimal Formula
Divide the percentage by 100 to get the decimal.
decimal = percentage ÷ 100

The two-place decimal point shortcut
Converting between decimals and percentages is just shifting the decimal point:
Decimal → percent: move the decimal point two places to the right (0.37 → 37%)
Percent → decimal: move the decimal point two places to the left (37% → 0.37)
What Are Percentages?
Percent means "out of a hundred" (from Latin per centum). A percentage represents a ratio where the denominator is always 100. The symbol % literally stands for /100, so 15% = 15/100 = 0.15.
Percentages are useful because they put different-sized quantities on a common scale. Saying a price rose by $3 tells you little without knowing the original price. Saying it rose by 5% immediately signals the scale of the change relative to the original.
What Are Decimals?
The decimal number system is base 10 — each digit's value depends on its position relative to the decimal point. Digits to the left of the point represent whole-number powers of ten (1, 10, 100, …). Digits to the right represent fractional powers of ten (1/10, 1/100, 1/1000, …).
For example, 0.321 = 3/10 + 2/100 + 1/1000. This is why multiplying by 100 converts a decimal fraction to a percentage: you are simply moving from "parts per unit" to "parts per hundred".
This decimal to percent converter works in both directions. Enter a decimal to see the equivalent percentage, or enter a percentage to see the equivalent decimal. Both fields update automatically.
